The Farmer and his Goat - - Award-Winning 2D Animation Short Film

The Farmer and his Goat - Dilsukhnagar Arena - Award-Winning 2D Animation Short Film

Sacrifice the cruelty not the animal

Film Name: The Farmer And His Goat
Category: 2D Animation

Story:
There lives a poor farmer and his family in a village. In order to appease Goddess Kali and invoke her blessings, the farmer intends to sacrifice his goat by beheading it as per ritualistic practices. As the farmer approaches the goat, its mother, naturally concerned, tries to stop him from taking it away.

The farmer ties the mother to a pole and takes her baby goat away for sacrifice. On the way, while resting under a tree, the farmer has a dream in which the goat ties him and his wife up and approaches menacingly, knife in hand, to sacrifice his child. The farmer wakes up to the rude shock and is relieved to see his wife and son sleeping peacefully. Learning that this was only a dream, he heaves a sigh of relief.

Realization dawns upon him and he now empathizes with the goat and its baby. He understands that the goat would be as concerned about her baby as he is about his child and decides against sacrificing the baby goat. Enlightened by the dream and filled with compassion, the farmer goes home and reunites the baby goat with her mother as they comfort and caress each other in joy.

Creative Team:
Govind Rajewar, Sachin Punde and Parag Warade

Govind Rajewar :
storyboarded the film, designed the two goats and props (knife, rope), created the backgrounds for the entire film and animated the first part of the film.

Govind holds a Degree in Fine Arts from Nanded and is currently pursuing his Diploma in Animation Engineering from Dilsukhnagar Arena where he worked on this award-winning film along with his colleagues Parag and Sachin. He envisions for himself, an eventful career in animation. However, his ultimate dream is to make a path-breaking film that will win him international recognition.

Sachin Punde designed the farmer character, animated the last segment of the film and directed the film.

Sachin holds a B.Com Degree and is currently pursuing his Diploma in Animation Engineering from Dilsukhnagar Arena where he worked on this award winning film. Sachin dreams of becoming a Director someday. A true movie afficionado, Sachin spends his time watching as many animation and live-action films as he can get his hands on. His passion for films is evident in the long hours spent in the library, voraciously gobbling up books on ‘film making techniques’ such as Story development, Screenplay, Camera angles, Shot divisions, Editing etc. authored by luminaries in the discipline. He is particularly impressed by John Laster’s works which include the blockbuster animation films - Bug’s Life, Toy Story and Cars. George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are two of his all-time favourite directors.

Parag Warade ideated the story for the film and planned the narration apart from animating the second part of the film. He also created the mother and child characters.

Parag holds a Commerce Degree and is currently pursuing his Diploma in Animation Engineering from Dilsukhnagar Arena where he worked on this award winning film. Parag is a good ideator and excels at drawing inspiration from real life experiences. The story for this film occurred to him naturally as he comes from a remote area in Maharashtra where the irrational practice of sacrificing animals to please Gods still exists. Parag’s story idea was the key to helping the movie win prestigious recognitions.
